Chen Yanxi After Divorce: No Longer Believes in Forever, Once Hoped for a Second Child — A Love Advisor Explains
📰 What Happened
43-year-old Taiwanese actress Chen Yanxi officially announced her divorce from mainland actor Chen Xiao in February 2025, ending their 8-year marriage. After the divorce she settled alone in Beijing, raising her 9-year-old son "Little Star" while continuing to act.
A year and a half later, she opened up for the first time on the mainland variety show "My Little One 2026", chatting about parenting with friends Ouyang Nini and Zhang Shuhao. While sorting through her son's old clothes, she revealed she could never bear to give them away — because she was holding onto the hope of having another baby. But in the end she said with resignation: "There's probably no chance now." She also admitted that after the divorce, she "no longer believes in forever".
"No chance now" and "no longer believe in forever" — these two lines capture the double loss a woman faces after a marriage ends: losing a partner, and losing the possibility of giving birth again.
👩💼 The Advisor's Take
"No Longer Believe in Forever" — A Wound or Growth?
The same words mean very different things depending on when they are said. As a love advisor, I see three possibilities:
- If said right after a divorce, when the wound is still raw, it is self-protection — too hurt to trust again, choosing to deny "forever" rather than risk another disappointment. This disbelief is temporary, and will loosen with time and healing.
- If said after a year and a half of settling, when one can look back calmly, it may be mature awakening — no longer worshipping the phrase "forever", but understanding that love has its limits and conditions, and learning to treasure the present instead.
- The most dangerous is the third kind: using disbelief to close oneself off, turning protection into rejection, pushing away anyone who comes close.
Which stage Chen Yanxi is in, only she knows. But a love advisor would say this: "not believing in forever" is not the same as "not worth loving again". Letting go of the obsession with "forever" is not letting go of love — it is finding a more honest way to love.
"Wanted a Second Child but No Chance" — How to Face What Has Been Missed
There are two layers of regret here: one is about giving birth itself, the other is "is there still someone to have one with me".
For women around 40, there is a clear biological time limit on childbirth. What they face is not just "do I want to", but "can I still make it in time" and "who would I have one with". Chen Yanxi holding onto her son's old clothes seems like sorting clothes, but inside it is about not wanting to let go of the dream of a "complete family".
But a love advisor would remind you: regret must be split into "fixable" and "irreversible". Missing the window to have a child is a biological fact, no point forcing it; but the happiness of a "complete family" is not tied to "a biological second child" — a single parent can be happy, a remarried couple can build a family again. The wish for a son and daughter is ultimately about wanting a home full of love, not just the number.
After Divorce, How to Believe in Love Again
As a love advisor, I have seen many people after divorce. Those who make it back out usually do three things right:
- Do not push yourself: rushing to "find someone" before the wound heals usually ends with picking the wrong person, or using a new partner as a painkiller — and getting hurt even more.
- Redefine "success": stop treating "till death do us part" as the only standard. Ask instead "did this relationship help me grow". Even if it ended, if you learned something, it was not wasted.
- Accept being alone first: being single is a complete state, not a "waiting for someone" transition. Learning to be happy alone comes before being able to be happy with someone else.
💡 What You Can Learn
First, do not just believe in the slogan "forever" — believe in "effort". Forever is a result, not an opening promise. It only happens when both people keep working at it.
Second, when facing what has been missed, separate "what you can change" from "what you cannot". Let go of what cannot be changed, work on what can. Like the timing of having a child — some things once missed are gone for good, but there is still plenty in life that can start again.
Third, if a friend has just divorced, do not rush to tell them to "find someone quickly". Wounds take time, and pushing them only makes them close off more. Being there and listening is already the best support.
